Can You Keanu?
March 3, 2009, San Francisco, CA: “Point Break LIVE!,” the internationally lauded absurdist stage adaptation of the 1992 Keanu Reeves/Patrick Swayze extreme-sports blockbuster, returns by popular demand to San Francisco's CELLSpace, Friday nights beginning March 13, 2009, at 9:00 p.m. Called “Hilarious” by Variety Magazine, “Point Break LIVE!” tells the story of former College-football-star-turned-FBI-agent, Johnny Utah, in pursuit of the surfing, bank robbing, skydiving, bare-hand-fighting adrenaline-junkie-cum-Zen-master Bodhi Sattva. Since its Seattle debut in 2003, “Point Break LIVE!” has ‘rawked' sold out audiences and received rave reviews in Minneapolis, New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The producers and cast of San Francisco's first “Point Break LIVE!” production were honored with a City Proclamation from Mayor Gavin Newsom on its opening day, April 11, 2008, “for their efforts in creating another successful entertainment institution in San Francisco.” In response to such high praise, Gawker.com firmly stated, “They should make it TWO days.” “Point Break LIVE!” features armed robbery, big-wave surfing, car chases, explosions, no less than two extended skydiving sequences and an indoor monsoon. “'Point Break LIVE!' turns out to be a wild ride," states SFWeekly, because this "action" play offers a true cathartic experience, putting you in the water with the surfers, throwing you out the door of an airplane, and robbing you at gunpoint. Add in the hotness factor - surfer dudes and female stunt doubles - and you have a night of unrivaled exciting live theater entertainment. The audience doesn't just watch “Point Break LIVE!”; they are in it to the point HustlerofCulture.com proclaims “Point Break LIVE!” is the ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show ' for our generation.” "Survival Kits™", at a mere $1 each, contain items to help audience members participate in "the ultimate ride," and include a plastic emergency poncho to protect the viewers from the action that literally spills forth from the stage. In fact, there's so much action spilling forth from the stage, it has to be videoed and played through a real-time live feed on TV monitors set to the side of the stage. Via the "Keanu Kam™", the audience can keep track of the volunteer Keanu when the action bursts out onto the street! At the end of the performance, the "volunteer Keanu" is handed a VHS tape of his or her performance. The LA Weekly proclaimed “Point Break LIVE!,” "So hideously over the top, you can't stop laughing." Executive producer, Eve Hars, states, “San Francisco remains our most receptive and welcoming audience on par with Los Angeles. When we brought ‘Point Break LIVE!' to San Francisco in April 2008, we hoped we'd maybe get a two-month run, but the demand remained so great we ran the show three-performances-per-week for three extra months.” Thomas Blake, Associate Producer, states, “The last few San Francisco performances really made us realize how much the crowds here loved the show. Tickets were being scalped for up to $100.00 and those that couldn't get seats were nearly having nervous breakdowns in front of the venue. We had to bring ‘Point Break LIVE!' back, we promised we'd bring it back and we're happy to bring it back to a much larger venu with more seating.” Will you have fun? We'll just dole out a few more knarly props from cool media outlets on behalf of “Point Break LIVE!”
